Two Schools Joined the MSU-IIT NMPC Aflatoun Family

JUNE 27, 2014 –MSU-IIT NMPC welcomed two more schools into the Aflatoun circle of family. Zenith Maxima Venture Learning Center at Tambo, Iligan City and Prophet’s Pen Academy at Gitagum, Misamis Oriental on the same date of June 27 officially welcomed the coop in teaching their students, at ages 6 to 14, the art of savings and the exploration of their personality and potentials.

At ZMV Learning Center, staffs from the Head Office and Iligan branches conducted the launching to teachers and students. The launching was headed by Ms. Julie T. Quijano of the Marketing Department where the students have participated in activities aimed at teaching them reading comprehension, basic financial literacy and familiarization of the Aflatoun concept. ZMV Learning Center became a partner school of Kiwalan Branch and there were fifteen pioneering Aflatoun savers at the end of the launching – a number the coop plans to increase by the end of this school year.

On the other hand, Mr. Aldrin R. Loyola of the Head Office, together with representatives from Iligan’s Poblacion Branch and Tibanga Main headed and launched the same program to Prophet’s Pen Academy of the same date. The event was highly accepted by the administrators of the school as a group of eager students summed up to 137 individuals attended the launching. The students have enjoyed the video presentation telling the origins and goals of Aflatoun not only in the local areas but also in the global context. Together with the launching, the facilitators conducted a drawing contest activity to the students to engage them to draw Aflatoun’s fireball character – one simple activity to get the students to know the character.

ZMV Learning Center and Prophet’s Pen Academy are the first two schools that have implemented the Aflatoun Program of this year. Since 2008, the Aflatoun Program within the grasps of MSU-IIT NMPC have increased to 1,670 depositor students, a total savings generation of 1.3 million and 26 partners (data as of December 2013). The active movement of Aflatoun through the cooperative have continued the growth of this program to many students within the areas of the coop.
